It looks like parts of the country are going to get another battering this weekend, so here’s an Insurer’s advice for Storm Éowyn
It’s important that your property must be maintained properly. Pay particular attention to areas likely to bear the brunt of a storm, such as the roof and gutters.
Get rid of overhanging, loose or dead branches on the property to help prevent damage in windy weather and secure loose objects that are kept outdoors.
Close all gates, windows and doors (including internal doors) and stay indoors as much as possible during the storm.
Move bins into a sheltered area to avoid damage, and weigh down if possible.
Protect a Property in a Flood
If you live in an area prone to flooding, I recommend that you purchase sandbags to place on doors, windows and any other gaps.
Move any electrical equipment and sentimental items upstairs to prevent damage.
Identify how to turn off their gas, water and electricity in case you need to leave their home during a flood. More information on turning these off can be found here.

Your insurance company is here to help
If you need to make a claim, you should contact your insurer as soon as possible.
Please consult your policy documents to see what is and isn’t covered.
For example, storm damage to fences, and gradual wear and tear is not covered if you haven’t maintained your property, a claim might not be successful even if damage was revealed in a storm.
You may have home emergency cover which will help if your home is rendered uninhabitable or loses power.
The best home insurance isn’t always the cheapest, but it’s at times like this that you need it most.
Good luck to everyone out there, and most importantly, stay safe.
